Welding - Math Formulas

A = Area: amount of material to cover a surface
P = Perimeter: the distance around a figure
C = Circumference: the distance around a circle
V = Volume: amount of space occupied by an object
LSA = Lateral Surface Area: surface area of sides. Not top or bottom.
TSA = Total Surface Area: includes the LSA plus the area of the top & bottom

AREA

- of a square  A = S2

- of a rectangle A = LXW

- of a circle A = or2

- of a triangle A = ½ bh

- of a trapezoid A = ½ h(b1+b2)

- of a parallelogram A = hb

- lateral surface area of cylinder LSA = o dh

- total surface area of a cylinder TSA = o dh + 2(or2)

- lateral surface area of a right rectangular solid  LSA = 2(LH + WH)

- total surface area of a right rectangular solid TSA = 2LH + 2WH + 2LW

Perimeter

- of a square P =4s

- of a rectangle P = 2(L+W)

- of a triangle P = A+B+C

Circumference

- of a circle  C = od   or    C = 2or

Volume

- of a cube V = S3

- of a rectangle V = LWH

- of a cylinder V = or2h

- of any rectangular shaped object V = area of bxh   OR   V = cylinder + rectangle
