CWB Training & Testing
With Canadian Welding Bureau requirements on the
rise, GRB College of Welding has recently increased the number of
"group rate" testing days available for welders to re-certify
or test for their initial CWB certification. (SMAW, FCAW, GMAW &
GTAW). Due to these increased numbers we also find a corresponding
need for some training prior to testing. At GRB we have several
training options in place that vary from hourly training to purchasing
a 40 hour tax deductible course. To find out where you "are"
in respect to these weld tests please
download a printable .PDF copy of the test here. Test dates
are displayed at the bottom of this page.
If your CWB certification has expired (beyond the 90 day grace period),
or you have never been certified in the first place, you will be
required to perform four (4) weld tests. The weld tests will be
conducted in the following order; flat, horizontal,
vertical and overhead positions. (Click here to download a .PDF
file of the tests that you can print out.) If you are being re-certified
and are within the CWB grace period of 90 days from the date of
the expirey on your ticket, you will be required to do one (1) weld
test called a "Check Test", which is a single coupon in
the 3G/4G positions.(3G-Vertical / 4G-Overhead)
You may use your rig for these tests but must let us know well in
advance as there are a limited number of booths that are available
for this. We recommend that you use our facility and equipment.
All you need to bring is your ID such as Alberta Blue Book, Journeyman,
B Pressure or Red Seal card, your safety and welding equipment and
yourself.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) does not
issue wallet cards (tickets) to individual welders. The CWB will
issue a formal letter to an individual stating that you have taken
and passed your tests. You must give this letter to the supervisor
of a CWB CERTIFIED COMPANY. Your letter will be then be sent to
the Candian Welding Bureau by your employer. Your wallet card will
then be sent from the CWB office to your employer. It is up to the
individual welder to follow-up with your supervisor to recieve your
wallet card. GRB College of Welding administers the testing but
has no say in the process outlined by the CWB. (If you do not have
a job or an impending job with a CWB Certified company you may want
to hold off testing until you do.) (If your new employer pays for
your tests, the ticket is usually non-transferable and kept by your
employer.)
